WHAT IS MINIATURE ART

Come along and Visit the Exhibition!

Miniature art includes paintings, engravings and sculptures that are very small, and has  a long history that dates back to prehistory.

Miniature Art has been made for over 2500 years and is prized by collectors. Museums around the world have collections of miniature paintings, drawings, original prints and etchings, and sculpture.

A definition of miniature art is that it can be held in the palm of the hand, is no larger than 10 cm. Some exhibits require the subjects to be depicted in 1/6 actual size, and in all paintings the spirit of miniaturisation should be maintained. That also includes the brush strokes.

There are various societies all over Australia that do miniature work and hold competitions. Here in Canberra we have a small Miniature group, “Art in Miniature.” Our group is a friendship group of  20 members max. We exhibit locally and in the surrounding district every alternative year. This year we have an exhibition at THE LINK at Ginnenderry ACT. It runs from  7 July to the 15 August 2021, 10am- 4pm Wed to Sunday.

We have 17 members exhibiting and the work is exquisite. There is something for every taste. The paintings are framed and the frames must not exceed 25cm overall, but they can be smaller.

The painted surface is no larger than 10cm and also can be smaller, and must not exceed that size.

If you live in Canberra and District come along to the opening on Saturday 10 July at 2pm and enjoy the beautiful paintings. They will fit a small corner or space very easily in your home.
